Lab technician – Serengeti EEID Research Project
We are seeking a lab technician to work at our field lab at the Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre (SWRC) in Seronera, Serengeti National Park. The position will be based full-time at SWRC and work directly with our experienced international and Tanzanian research team who are currently focusing on studying nematode parasitism in wild herbivores. The successful candidate will be provided accommodation at SWRC. Employment will be through the Centre for Research Cooperation (www.tzcrc.co.tz) and will involve a probationary 3-month contract, followed by an annual (1-year) contract, with the possibility for renewal and promotion.

Responsibilities:
•
Live and work at SWRC for extended periods of
time.
•
Assist field assistants in the collection of
fecal and vegetation samples when needed.
• Use
parasitological techniques to isolate, identify, and count parasite eggs and
larvae in herbivore fecal samples and vegetation samples.
• Correctly
document parasitology results in laboratory notebooks and captures these data in
Microsoft Excel.
•
Prepare, store, and organize parasite samples
designated for international processing.
•
Follow instructions of the project manager and
adhere to the sampling schedule.
•
Communicate with a project manager about analyses,
data collection and findings.
• Engage with the field team to ensure the correct schedule for field sampling is carried out.
•
Be available for research team meetings to help
guide work progress.
•
Transport samples to Arusha for further analyses
when required.
Job requirements:
• Bachelor
of Science degree (Or equivalent) in a related field (Environmental Sciences,
Wildlife Management, Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences)
•
Tanzanian citizenship
•
Tanzanian driver’s license
•
Experience using a microscope or working in a
lab environment
•
Experience using Microsoft Excel
•
Great spoken and written communication skills
•
Attention to detail and strong organizational
skills
•
The ability to be based in remote areas for
extended periods of time
