Daraja La Ajira Tanzania Discussion On Which Is Better On Getting A Job; Experience Or Connection?
In our recent discussions in our platforms of Daraja La Ajira Tanzania, we have take a close look to the career development of professionals towards achieving their dream jobs and the main point of view was to know which attribute has got weight either "Experience or Connection".
In relation of the topic to Tanzania Jobs environment, we have seen the advantages and disadvantages of both attributes in getting hired with employers while connection takes more than 60% in the event of being hired than experience in most organisations available at Tanzania.
The following below are the common points relating to the topic as posted by its contributors.
1. Most Daraja la Ajira members argued that CONNECTION plays a big role in getting a job in most of the organisations with Privacy culture such as NGOs and Experience plays a big role in professional based organisations such as educational centers.
2. Experience can be achieved when you are ready employed in a certain period of time,therefore Connection should be at first place especially when you are fresh from college.
3. Recently, public posts from government are digitized and reduced sense of connection through its portals but still the challenge of favoritism is not eliminated to the later stages of recruitment.
4. Today, most of organisation relies on experience curve therefore creating connections in your area of expertise will help job candidates to be hired easily.
5. The government should create more reliable schemes/programs that fits experience gap of the desired professions to the students in Universities so as to tackle experience barrier while applying for the jobs.
6. In mostly cases, The Higher performing candidate will be the one with Experience than the one with connection.
7. Job seekers who are fresh from University are advised to go for opportunities of Internships, volunteerism and low level posts as a first step to get into the systems of building experience and connections. (Peter John 202Q)
8. Private sector should challenge public sector by creating a room for employable candidates to get experience related programmed from their firms as more as possible.
9. Is mostly cases Connection and Experience are perpendicular attributes, since its impossible to get experience which comes from employable path of being connected in either ways.
10. The biggest challenge relies on what to come in first place when hiring the personnel in a certain post by the employer, is it Connection or Experience when it appears both candidates have got almost same qualities of career achievements.
In conclusion, I would rather chose Experience over connection for creating better optimization of resources in the organisation.
